The best way to enter the offensive zone is to take the puck wide.
Winning faceoffs is a critical part of winning hockey games. If you win a face-off you gain possession of the puck and your team is essentially on offense, lose a draw and your team is on defense or trying to regain possession of the puck.
The key to any power play is quick puck movement, moving your feet to open areas, getting shots to the net, and being aggressive on loose pucks and rebounds.
The defenseman's job in the the offensive zone is not necessarily to score goals but to deliver the puck toward the net to create scoring chances. Here's is an example of a shot-pass, the defenseman quickly and deliberately delivers the puck to an area where the forward can deflect the puck for a shot on net before the goaltender can get set for the shot.
